Booklist: recommended Kids and Children's Recipe books

I often get asked what are my favourite, and the most popular recipe books, by desperate Mums trying to get their kids to eat a greater variety of healthy food!

By demand, here is a list of my favourite cookbooks, and also recommendations from other members of the Meals for Kids Forum. They are generally the easiest to find on the kitchen book shelf, as they are the ones covered in the most cooking stains!

Baby and Toddler

Feeding Your Baby and Toddler

by Annabel Karmel

This book contains some of Annabel Karmel's favourite recipes for babies and toddlers. It offers ideas for fussy eaters as well as advice on nutrition.

On the plus side this book provides plenty of new ideas to get your kids to eat a wider variety of food. On the negative the ideas can be rather time consuming to prepare, but, if it gets your your children to eat more, then it is well worth it!

Finger Food for Babies and Toddlers
by Jennie Maizels

This book does what it says on the cover! Providing meal ideas for babies and toddlers that no longer want to be spoon fed, but want to feed themselves.

Containing easy and simple ideas for finger foods the recipes are well laid out quick to prepare. However, you may well already be using some of the ideas yourself, but it does help relieve the pain and frustration when babies start refusing the spoon.

The Gina Ford Baby & Toddler Cook Book
by Gina Ford

The toddlers themselves seem to speak for this book, with reports that they never seem to refuse the recipes from the book, and even the cooks like it!

It's good there are so many 'traditional' meals in the book, meaning the ingredients are usually in the cupboards, but Gina does seem to think all cooks are 'stay at home Mum's' which is so often not the case.

A great book and highly recommended!
